A repair either disappears or it doesn’t. Matching the existing texture — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel or smooth — is what decides which.
Texture and paint handled as one finish — so the patch is invisible after the paint goes on, not only before.

Most visible patches were repaired correctly. The board is sound, the seams are taped, the compound is sanded flat. What gives them away is the texture: the pattern, the depth, or the edge where new meets old.
A texture that looks right at noon can still show at four in the afternoon, when the sun comes across the wall from the side. That is why matching is done on the wall, against the existing surface, and checked before paint — not judged from a patch of fresh compound.
Then the paint. A patch painted by itself will flash — a duller or shinier rectangle where new primer and old finish reflect light differently. Painting corner to corner is not an add-on; it is what makes the repair invisible.
Sprayed on, then flattened with a wide knife once it starts to set. The most common texture in Sarasota homes built from the 1990s on. Matching it is about timing and pressure: the same spatter size, knocked down at the same moment, with the same blade angle, so the flattened islands are the same size and spacing as the original.
A fine spatter with no knockdown, applied through a hopper gun. It comes light, medium and heavy, and the usual mistake is matching the wrong weight. We test-spray on a sample board next to the wall, adjust air and compound consistency, and only then spray the repair.
Applied by hand, so no two walls are the same. These are matched by eye, in sections, with the same tool and the same stroke as the original. Slower than spray textures, and quoted that way.
“Smooth” is a texture too, and the least forgiving one. A patch on a smooth wall needs a skim coat across the whole area and the same primer everywhere, or it will show as a ghost after paint. That work is described on our Level 5 drywall finishing page.
A popcorn ceiling can be patched to match, or removed and finished smooth. Which one makes sense depends on the age of the texture and how much of the ceiling is affected. Texture applied before the early 1980s is tested before anyone scrapes it; we say so at the site visit, not after the ceiling is open.
Matching the texture is half of an invisible repair. The other half is the paint: primer on the repair, then the wall or ceiling painted corner to corner in the same sheen, so the new area does not flash against the old.
When the same crew does the repair, the texture and the paint, there is one scope and one person accountable for the result. That is why Presiado does drywall and painting as one system — a patch is only finished when it cannot be found.
The same steps on every repair, from a single patch to a whole room — written, walked through with the homeowner, and documented at the end.
Texture type, weight and age identified in person, in daylight and under the room’s own lighting.
The repair area, the finished area (always larger), primer and paint, and the price — documented before any work begins.
Board replaced or patched, seams taped, compound feathered wide and sanded flat.
A test area on a board or an out-of-sight section, adjusted until it reads the same as the original.
Edges feathered past the repair; knockdown timed to the original; hand textures worked in sections.
The whole wall or ceiling plane, in the matching sheen, so nothing flashes.
Texture, product and color recorded under Lifetime Color Documentation, so the next repair can be matched instead of guessed.
Behind a stain or a soft spot there can be nothing, or there can be a leak that was never fixed. We do not price for problems that may not exist. Loading a quote with money for damage nobody has seen makes the estimate lose to contractors who quoted the actual job.
Instead, the written scope carries a concealed-conditions clause: if something is found behind the surface, it is documented with a photo and priced before anyone touches it. No surprise line items, and no paying up front for damage that was never there.
